To create a new ingestion job, in the main ingestion page, click on Create new ingestion job.
The creation process goes in two steps:
a. The first step is in a screen that has a reminder of the generic actions that will take place, gives the choice of the preservation area in which the ingestion will be done and offers the possibility of adding a description which identify this process.
It must be taken into account that once we press Next in this screen, the ingestion job will be created, and it will not be possible to have it deleted.
Quitting the second creation screen through any link or closing of the browser, the jobs will still be created. It will be possible to go back to it through the links in the left navigation pane, the lists in the main ingestion jobs page, and some other links like the task lists in the home page. Although the job may be used for ingestion of any object, the assigned preservation area will not change, neither the preservation plan that was associated when creating the job.
When selecting the preservation area to which the new ingestion job will be associated, the hyperlink See preservation area details will appear, which will open a new tab where the details of the selected preservation area for the new ingestion job will display.
b. The second step is a screen with full information on the job that is going to be started.
The information offered is divided in:
Ingestion job details: it includes preservation area, preservation plan, metadata schema used, metadata import filter, audit schema and location of the shared folder. All entities defined in the system have direct links that allow going to see their definition.
The path to the shared folder has to be copied and pasted into the file browser being used. For security reasons, modern web browsers do not allow for a cause-effect relation between web data and local resources, to avoid data theft and virus or malware actions. This limitation is a standard and cannot be avoided by any program that follows it. It is possible, if the user so wants to configure it, to add extensions or add-ins to browsers that will provide that functionality. You can write or talk to your system administrator about it, should you want to use them, to be aware of the security risks that their use would imply.
Besides that, a window replaces the files explorer format whenever the user wants it. This window allows you to create and upload files and folders, as well as make it easier inserting the content inside the object. It works just the same as a Windows file browser. Just select the button “Open Ingestion Folder”. Once opened it will appear a new window which allows this functionality.
Files explorer format window to ingest.
Sanitizers, preprocessors and ingestion job checks. This section informs about all the sanitizers, preprocessors and ingestion job checks that the object will have to go through to be able to be ingested. They are part of the preservation plan that is active for the preservation area at the moment the ingestion job is created.
Characterizers, validators and pre-ingestion evolvers. This section shows the characterizers and validators that the system will use to identify file formats and their corresponding validation. The evolvers applied to files to be ingested are also listed here.
Digital signature. The digital signature profiles with which the objects ingested by the system will be signed are listed here.
Ingestion content: it is a dynamically reloaded window, whereby the system informs about the content of the ingestion folder. It also shows a summary of the size of the ingestion content and the number of objects, folders and files. Until the system detects there are ingestion folders created, and that they are not empty, it will not activate the button Start button, which will permits starting the execution of the ingestion job.
To finally start the ingestion job, press the Start button after copying the objects to be ingested in the temporary ingestion folder. Be careful not to start the job before the file transfer has ended; as the system will try to gain control of the temporary folder, banning the rest of the copy process and, most probably, having an ingestion job failure due to noncompliance with the preservation plan.
