# Storage groups

The main screen for storage groups lists the existing groups, showing information on their free and used space. This information comes from adding the space of the related disks.

It also shows the button to ***Create a new storage group***.

When creating or editing a storage group, the only data field to set up is the name of the group. Disk assignment is done at the moment of disk registry.

Once a disk is assigned to a group, this cannot be changed.

From the preservation point of view, a storage group is going to represent a specific repository, and it is convenient that all disks associated to a storage group have common characteristics as for the risks they run. That is to say, that they are all in the same geographical location, are of the same kind, same technology, etc.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.libnova.com/libsafe-advanced-system-administrator-manual/system-configuration/storage/storage-groups.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
