General considerations

LIBSAFE is a module-based application. A simple inspection of its installation files allows identifying three parts: a web interface, some automatic job modules, and a set of external programs that support the work of LIBSAFE.

All of LIBSAFE’s proprietary elements are protected against intrusion; this is a necessity, not only for reasons of copyright, but also for the protection of the preservation repository. An improper direct use of the application data, more so if done with no knowledge of the underlying structure, would turn into a degradation of the system. That could lead to loss of preserved objects for whatever reasons of location inability, modification or removal.

As a system technical administration requires a deep knowledge of said system, it is recommended that in case of any configuration doubt or difficulty, the system administrator contacts the LIBNOVA consultants, to look for support in solving them.

The sections of this manual are shown in an order close to the one recommended for review in a LIBSAFE implementation. You must be aware that to understand the scope of some actions, it is necessary to read the User and Preservation Administration Manual, where a general introduction to the interface and the application is made.

All options shown hereafter are found in the main screens of Advanced options – System configuration and Advanced options – Preservation configuration.
