Create Collection Screen - Default value for Hidden on Home Page
Added in the configuration screen the possibility to hide any newly created collection by default.
Automatic Thumbnail Generation – New Configuration Options
We've added new settings that let you automatically generate thumbnails for objects. You can now choose how the system selects the file used as the thumbnail based on one of three criteria:
ID
Name
Order
The system will filter the files linked to the object using your chosen parameter and select the first matching file to create the thumbnail.
Facet Display Configuration by Page Type
Added a new configuration option that allows administrators to specify on which page types the search facets should appear. This enhancement provides more granular control over the user interface and browsing experience.
Facet display can now be enabled or disabled for the following page types:
Browse Records
Browse Collections
Browse Selected Collections
All Pages
User Permission Management Update in OpenAccess Admins can now assign the "See other user tasks" permission when creating or editing roles, enabling better control over task visibility that other users have launched in the system.
New Bulk Metadata Editor
The Bulk Metadata Editor is a tool that allows you to edit metadata of multiple objects in bulk directly in OpenAccess, facilitating update, correction or normalization tasks in bulk, without the need to edit each element individually or republishing it from Libsafe.
The Bulk Metadata Editor can be launched from Modify Record/Collection page, when selecting more than one item
Search results now distinguish between collections and subcollections.
The results list will indicate whether an item is a collection or subcollection, and individual records will display the collection or subcollection they belong to.
Breadcrumbs navigation for records
Each record now displays a breadcrumb trail with clickable links that show the logical hierarchy, indicating the collection or subcollection to which the record belongs.
Updated Collection Showcase Page Behavior
The behavior of the collection screen now depends on whether a collection showcase is available:
If a collection showcase is provided, the collection page will display the showcase page.
If no showcase is available, by default; users will be redirected directly to the list of items inside the collection.
Improvement in Search Results Sorting
Now, when sorting search results by a specific metadata field (such as year or custom_metadata), objects containing that metadata will appear first, sorted accordingly, followed by matching objects that lack the metadata. If none of the results include the selected sorting metadata, no results will be shown—ensuring consistent behavior.
Predefined Thumbnails for object type
When a record is published without a thumbnail, OpenAccess will now display a default image specific to the object's type.
Improved Accessibility and Responsiveness on Homepage Carousel A new carousel has been added to the homepage, featuring full-width slides with titles and descriptions. It includes keyboard navigation, ARIA labels, and customizable controls to ensure accessibility and modern browser compatibility.
Enhanced “Featured Files at a Glance” Carousel Featured files are now presented in visually enhanced vertical cards with images, clear typography, and smooth text truncation. A dark-themed, responsive carousel with rounded cards and soft shadows supports keyboard navigation and accessible color contrast. Users can browse curated content easily using arrow controls across all screen sizes for an improved user experience.
Enhanced “Discover Curated Collections” Carousel Featured content is now displayed in elegant cards with cover images, truncated text, and a “Start Exploring” button enhanced with hover effects. The light-themed, responsive carousel includes keyboard-accessible horizontal navigation with smooth scrolling and clear visual hierarchy. Accessibility features such as ARIA labels, high-contrast colors, and keyboard support ensure an inclusive and intuitive user experience.
Improved “More ways to explore” Navigation Updated icons for List, Timeline, Gallery, and Map now feature minimalist designs with accessible background cards.
Improvements in the audio/video player with transcripts Track names and default or custom thumbnails are now displayed, with full or intelligently truncated names. Tracks are logically ordered and visually highlighted when playing, with clearly associated transcripts.
PDF.JS Viewer Updates
The PDF.JS library has been upgraded to the latest version. Additionally, PDF loading has been improved to support gradual loading for large files, enhancing performance and user experience.
Product License Warning Message
Resolved an issue with license activation to prevent the warning message "The system is running with a 'TRIAL' license" from appearing for system users.
Enhanced Security Against JSX Attacks
Implemented additional safeguards to protect the system from potential JSX-based security vulnerabilities.
Other OpenAccess Backend fixes
This update also brings major performance boosts and important bug fixes. Searching and loading objects is now much faster, large text fields are better handled, and geolocation now correctly adapts to the selected language. We’ve also improved file processing, data exports, and made the system more reliable overall.
In-Collection Search
The search engine now supports scoped searching within a collection when navigating from a results page. If users are viewing a specific collection’s results page, they can seamlessly perform searches limited to that collection's contents.
Consistent "Type of Search" Behavior for "Keyword" Field
Previously, when "Keyword" was selected as the Field in the advanced search, only "Contain" was available as the Type of Search—as intended. However, switching to a different field and then back to "Keyword" would incorrectly enable all search types.
This issue has been resolved. Now, when "Keyword" is selected, the "Contain" option remains the only available Type of Search, ensuring consistent and expected behavior.
Metadata Validation on Object Save
The system correctly handles format validation errors without clearing the metadata content.
